POPTAN BFN
An improved self basifying agent for chrome tannages with pronounced masking effect.

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE

A fine creamish white powder which is a combination of special compounds with special masking agents having 90% active contents.

APPLICATIONS

POPTAN BFN is very fine, alkaline powder which is sparingly soluble in acid solutions. It offers a very safe, method for controlling the basicity of chrome tannage.
POPTAN BFN is added soori after chrome gets penetrated. It is to be added as powder in one feed. It ensures obtaining uniform tannage, colour and pH. An addition of 0.4-0.5% Poptan BFN on pelt weight is sufficient for normal pickle-chrome tan process.

ADVANTAGES

• POPTAN BFN produces a gradual increase in pH without the initial rapid rise normally encountered with common alkalis used for basification. Its use leads to even chrome distribution throughout the cross-section of the leather.
• POPTAN BFN gives efficient chrome exhaust and ensures brighter colour and uniformity from batch to batch.
• POPTAN BFN reacts with sulphuric acid to give only soluble salts. Alkalis based on calcium when used lead to formation of insoluble calcium sulphate in the pelt, which has a detrimental effect on the dyeing and can result in white stains on dyed leather.
• POPTAN BFN ensures uniform pH level throughout the cross section of leather because of the addition of masking agents and requires no extra time or quantity in case of extra thick guage leather for deriving the required pH level and boil test.
